about the motley muse . . .

motley - adjective: incongruously varied in appearance or character; noun: a varied mixture.

muse - 1.) noun: in Greek and Roman mythology, each of nine goddesses who preside over the arts and sciences. 2.) a woman who is the inspiration for a creative artist.

the creative spark has always resided within me. but since i my life has always been about what happens while i make other plans, there have been just a few times in my life when it have been able to fully pursue this spark, in and of itself, as i find i am doing today..

most of my life has been about child-raising, grandchildren tending and now my great-grandchildren are a big focus of my attention. during the early years of being a momma, i would volunteer my creativity to my kids' school. I made costumes for plays, fashioned christmas tree trimmings, sewed my childrens' clothing and stitched decor items to dress up our home. as the kids got older i found my career in medicine. i was a doctor's back-office nurse for years and then, i became an instructor, teaching others to work in the medical field.

in 2003 my life took a sudden turn. i was hit by a drunk driver. my injuries were such that i was forced to retire from teaching. several surgeries later i am still recuperating but the lingering feeling i have after all this is that each day is a gift. one of my first thoughts after the accident, while they were cutting me out of that car, was, (honest-to-gawd) "did i kiss my husband goodbye this morning?" now, no matter what, he gets a kiss and a hug every single morning, noon and night! i am soooo lucky to have this second chance!

so after sitting here on my duff for over a year, i simply had to get up and do something. i hauled out my old sewing machine and made it perform again! i began making dog clothes, of all things! i have 3 chinese crested dogs who needed winter coats, since they have little of their own. While making those garments i realized again how much i love to sew! That led to my designing a line of pocketbooks and accessories.

each of my creations are one-of-a-kind. i rely on my grandmother’s teachings about fabric, and embellishments and my personal sense of style in the creation of my purses. My love of attention to detail compels me to put those "extra touches" on my designs that make them special and one-of-a-kind. my newest line includes fully lined jean-top purses, encrusted with embelishments and snap or hook closures. each has a handle for easy over-the-shoulder carrying.

thank you for visiting my blog. i hope you will find something you like in my creations and i hope to be able to relate here a picture of my world and the "muse" that inspires me to create.

off to the marketplace!

i almost never sleep anymore! especially when i am looking forward to an event or happening of some kind. daughter melissa and i are going out to idalia road marketplace tomorrow morning (today, actually!) to sell. ive inventoried all of my crafts and items for sale, ive packed them up and everything is loaded into melissa's suv for our early morning trip out there. but still my brain will not shut off, going over everything, again and again, mentally listing everything, checking it off and then doing it all over again. it feels like ocd!

this is my very first blog on this site. ive started others, but abandoned them when a hectic schedule prevailed or i simply lost interest. this is the first one that i am hoping will focus on my crafts, my creativity and what it takes for me to create, market and sell my ideas. i will also include snippets of my family life, my varied interests as well as activities and plans.

im fairly new at this so please bear with me. you are invited to share your comments with me as to how i might improve the site, or any other ideas you might have regarding my space. i welcome the sharing of ideas and techniques as well. i believe there are angels amoung us, each with a message for us. please share yours.
